Clay canopic jars
2nd May 2018
We visited Lisburn Linen Museum to create canopic jars out of clay as part of our Ancient Egyptian topic. We have been learning all about the process of mummification in class and had discovered that the Egyptians used canopic jars to store some of the organs of dead people to help prepare them for mummification. The top of a canopic jar was usually in the shape of the head of an Ancient Egyptian god such as a baboon or a falcon. We decided to be inventive and think of different animals to use; we had some bears, snakes, koalas and even a unicorn. We had lots of fun making the jars and learnt new techniques to use when working with clay.
