P5 pupils turn into Pharaohs!

We spent the day at the Lisburn Linen Museum as part of our topic of the Ancient Egyptians. We were finding out how the production of linen in Northern Ireland is linked to the Ancient Egyptians. Our guide Philip was super and shared with us lots of interesting facts.

We learnt that linen was coloured using dyes that come from nature. Onion skin can be used to turn fabric a yellow- gold colour and beetles are used to turn fabric pink. We also found out that beetles are used to colour lots of our food! We also found out that the Egyptians used linen to wrap the body of dead people in, while turning them into a mummy.

After our tour of the museum we made replicas of Tutankhamun's death mask.

We had a really good time on our trip.
