Victorian Day

12th Jan 2016

Primary 7 pupils stepped back in time to experience a day in the life of a Victorian school child. They arrived at school on Monday 11th January dressed as Victorian children. They had the opportunity to experience the regimented way in which Victorian children were educated. They discovered that a lot of the teaching was repetition as they recited poems and mental arithmetic and completed handwriting activities on individual blackboards and also with a quill and ink.

At break time, the pupils played hopscotch and also with hoops and skipping ropes on the playground. After break time, there was a session of marching drills as this is how the children were expected to move to and from the classroom.

After lunch, the pupils had the opportunity to play with Victorian toys including marbles and the diabolo as well as learning to perfect the art technique of paper quilling.

Primary 7 pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day as a Victorian school child but needless to say, they are extremely relieved to be going to school in the 21st century!
