NI Big Sock

12th Oct 2016

P7 pupils are involved in a very exciting community participation project called NI Big Sock.  The aim is to make the world's largest Christmas stocking from patchwork by December 2016.  To achieve this, the finished stocking has to be at least 52m from top to bottom and 22m from heel to toe.  Largymore Primary School is currently one of three other schools in Northern Ireland involved in this world record attempt.

P7 students enjoyed making curriculum connections with this art and craft project as they have been reviewing 2D shapes, hexagons and tessellations in Numeracy.  During World Around Us they have been learning that sewing was a very popular hobby during Victorian Times.  Molly said, "I liked making the tessellated patterns," and Bradley explained that he enjoyed cutting out the hexagons.

Thank you to all the Largymore students, teachers, parents, families and community members who have donated time, materials and sewing skills for NI Big Sock. For more information on how to become involved check out nibigsock on Facebook
