We visited Mount Stewart on our class trip. The class time travelled to the Victorian era and learnt what life would have been like living or working in the big house as a child.
We got dressed up in clothes of the time period and got to experience Victorian schooling. In the school room, we tried writing on slate tablets and even did a little maths. We discovered that you had to be on your best behaviour at school back then, if you weren't you may have been caned or made to wear the dunce's hat. Everyone agreed that we prefer school nowadays!
We went into the house and learned about Lady Helen who grew up there. The class visited her nursery and had a chance to play with some of the toys she would have played with. We also got to play with some of the outdoor toys like hoop and stick, hoopla, bean bags and hobby horses.
We had a very interesting time and learnt a lot more about toys in the past.
