P7 Victorian School Day
25th Jan 2019
P7 have been learning all about the Victorian period and the Irish Potato Famine. As part of their studies they have been looking at the role of children within society - how they were educated, the jobs they were required to do and what was expected of them based on their gender. They took part in a reinactment of a Victorian school day. They dressed up, chanted spellings and tables, recited poetry, completed outdoor drill activities and even used chalk and ink for writing. They followed traditional Victorian class rules and were exposed to the reality of Victorian punishments. A fun day was had by all and the children have learnt a lot.
